FAQs

WHEN/WHERE WE SAIL

2NINER provides coaching at weekend training during the Fall (September to December), Spring (January to April) and Summer (May to August), in Miami out of the US Sailing Center Miami (USSCMiami) unless we are on the road. 2NINER also provides coaching at a series of major US youth regattas and select international events. Athletes seeking boat storage at USSC Miami must check in with the office staff to set up an account and pay storage fees. Contact USSCM.

HOW CAN I GET STARTED?

Sailors looking to develop their skills while training with a committed group of athletes are encouraged to sign up for seasonal program and join the team for regattas. Sailors traveling to Miami from afar must contact head coach Philip Muller to make arrangements for scheduled practices.

Interested sailors with experience in doublehanded / trapeze sailing, with advanced racing involvement are encouraged to get a taste during a seasonal clinic or “try-it-out” day.

I WANT TO SAIL & I HAVE A BOAT

Great! Sailors provide their own boats to participate. If you have questions about finding a partner or boat, call us. Our program boat is available for charter during seasonal practice so interested sailors can try-before-you-buy.

OUR PURSUIT IS TO BETTER OUR OWN SKILLS AND EACH OTHER’S.

WE WILL SUCCEED AND FAIL AS A TEAM.

I WANT TO SAIL BUT I DON’T HAVE A BOAT

There are a few ways sailors without boats can get involved:

  • Sign up for a US Sailing “Try-It-Out” Clinic or join 2NINER for a try-it-out day or practice.
  • Find the coach at/after local regattas and ask to go for an opportunity to sail with an experienced sailor.
  • We want to help crews looking for a skipper (or a skipper in need of crew) but you MUST speak with Philip Muller about finding a partner. Sailors cannot show up for a practice, clinic, or regatta without prior communication.
  • At this point we are working on obtaining a program boat for sailors to “try-before-you-buy.” Stay in touch and inquire about the next opportunity to get on the water.

HOW TO START SAILING WITH 2NINER

It’s simple, contact us and express your interest in the program. Complete the necessary forms. Get your boat to Miami. And work as hard as you can.

We would encourage you to speak to any of our sailors, parents, and coaches if you’d like to learn more about 2NINER. We know the 29er seems a bit out of this world (because it’s so cool and fast) but we want to help you find way into a skiff.

FEES TO PARTICIPATE

2NINER wants athletes to commit and sign up for a season. Sailors may also sign up for a clinic, try-it-out day, or regatta. Registration fees are due prior to sailing with us.

Spring 2017 Seasonal fees are $1350* per sailor. *Regattas not included.

Out of Towner Spring 2017: $1050 per sailor (<15 days)

Contact Us for Boat Charters & Clinics.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

2NINER strives to create a positive and challenging environment for athletes to be pushed toward excellence. Sailors can expect to be challenged mentally and physically each day of sailing. It is our goal to enrich your sailing knowledge, ability, fitness level, and race attitude every day.

Our daily focus encompasses several critical parts of the sailing animal: boat specific technical knowledge, forecasting and meteorology, personal fitness and agility, strategic and tactical playbooks, boat mechanics and handling. Daily schedules include: onshore attention to equipment/tuning, forecasting, fitness, on-water drills and races.
